Fun fact: there’s a doughnut-like pastry that is called a pancake (“Pfannkuchen”) in Berlin, yet to distinguish it from the normal pancakes is called Berliner in the rest of Germany.
So when Kennedy made his speech, the citizens of Berlin were touched and the rest of Germany had a jolly good laugh about the POTUS declaring himself a doughnut.
